Far too many pedestrians die each year in the Las Vegas Valley. The Sacred Shoes Project was started because, except for loved ones, most people don’t realize when they are in a location where a pedestrian has died.

Our goal is to raise awareness for both drivers and pedestrians. It is also for family and friends to celebrate the lives of loved ones who have lost their lives on our streets.

To launch the project, we are starting with the 60 sites around the valley where people have lost their lives between July 1st 2020 and August 31st 2021. Our friends at the UNLV School of Medicine have put together an interactive map that shows all of the locations. If you click on the shoe icons you will see additional information on each location.

At each site we will hang a plaque in the area where the pedestrian was killed. Mounted on the plaque will be a pair of white shoes along with a “Memorial Number”. More details on each incident can be found by searching the number on our Memorial Page. If you know a pedestrian who died before July 2020 and you would like a memorial placed for them please contact us.

Each month after the launch we will be removing the oldest month of plaques on display and adding new plaques from our ongoing queue.

If you or a loved one has been affected by a pedestrian accident, please share your story with us by clicking on the Submit a Story button below.

If you are visiting the site because your loved one’s plaque is currently being displayed, we invite you to submit your stories, photos, or tributes. All you need to do is go to our Memorial Page, find the correct Memorial number, and fill out our submission form. Once your submission has been approved it will be posted on our website.
